This gentle saunter takes one deep into the wilderness with a minimal amount of effort. Sweeping views of the Sierra are abundant, as are the wildflowers in late June into Mid-July. By mid-July cattle grazing takes over and encourages one to hike elsewhere {2011 Update: Cattle are no more! But logging on Herring Creek Rd is full-throttle}. Fishing for small brookies on the S. Fork Stanislaus river (a mere stream in the meadow) is challenging, but productive for the skillful angler. Small Panther Martins or flies work best. Should one venture into the area in August, the fish are forced to pool in the only available sections of water. Fishing during this time is like, well, shooting fish in a barrel.
